Storytime Programs - Fall II, 2015 - Week One

The Early Learning Center is now up and running after our renovation and we are so excited to welcome your children to the start of Fall II storytimes this week!  In addition to our weekly storytimes, there are numerous special events happening so be sure to check our Events Calendar http://gailbweb.gailborden.info/evanced/lib/eventcalendar.asp, give us a call, or stop by the desk in the Early Learning Center if you would like more information.  We hope that you'll be joining us.   Below you will find some of the books, rhymes, and fingerplays we are presenting this week.

Baby Rhyme Time (For babies 0-11 months and a caregiver)

Books
Hush Baby Hush - Rippin
Wow! Babies! - Gentieu

Rhyme: All The Little Babies
All the little babies love bouncing, bouncing,
All the little babies just love to bounce!
All the little loves bouncing, bouncing,
All the little babies just love to bounce!
Lean to the left, lean to the right,
Hug that baby nice and tight!

Simple rhymes like this one are a great opportunity for some fun and giggles together.  Caregivers and babies always love a good bouncing rhyme!

Wonderful Ones (For babies 12-23 months and a caregiver)

Books
Monkey and Me - Gravett
We've All Got Bellybuttons! - Martin

Rhyme: The Animals at the Zoo
(Tune: The Wheels on the Bus)
The tigers at the zoo go roar, roar, roar,
Roar, roar, roar, roar, roar, roar,
The tigers at the zoo go roar, roar, roar,
All day long!
(Snakes-hiss/Monkeys-ooh ooh aah aah)

All toddlers love animals!  Use this week's theme as an opportunity to talk about zoo animals.  Can your child identify pictures of animals?  Can he describe them? Check out some of our many picture books, puzzles and puppets on this theme.

Terrific Twos (For toddlers 2-3 years and a caregiver)

Books
The Very Busy Spider - Carle
Itsy Bitsy Spider - Chapman

Action Rhyme: The Great Big Spider
The great big spider went up the water spout,
Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain,
And the great big spider went up the spout again.

There was a lot of talk about spiders this week!  Make the connection between storytime and the real world by pointing some out to your toddler inside and outside of your home.  What can he tell you about them?  What color are they?  Do they have legs?  Do they move fast or slow?

1, 2, 3, Go! (For children 1, 2, and 3 years and a caregiver)

Books
Cat's Colors - Cabrera
Piggies in the Pumpkin Patch - Peterson and Rofe
It's Pumpkin Time - Hall (Big Book)

Rhyme: Pumpkin, Pumpkin (Tune: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star)
Pumpkin, pumpkin on the ground (touch the ground)
How'd you get so big and round? (make a circle)
Once you were a seed so small (pinch fingers together)
Now you are a great big ball! (make a big circle)
Pumpkin, pumpkin on the ground (touch the ground)
How'd you get so big and round? (make a circle)

Pumpkins are just one of the many orange-colored things we read and sang about this week!  Take a walk outside and look for orange leaves.  Are they on the ground or on the trees?  What other colors are the leaves?

StoryMix For 3 to 6 (For children 3-6 years without caregiver)

Books
Time For Bed, Little One - Pitcher
Fox Makes Friends - Relf
Henry and the Red Stripes - Christelow

Action Rhyme: Fox
Fox has got a long red tail,
Long red tail, long red tail,
Fox has got a long red tail,
Shake that tail now!
(Two pointy ears - flip flop those ears
Pointy nose - wiggle that nose
Two bright eyes - blink those eyes)

Talk with your preschooler about foxes.  What did he learn about them in storytime this week? Where do they live?  What do they look like?
